Careers

"After many years of education, I found the option of an internship appealing, as it allowed me to work and study at my own pace. Working under a dedicated Canadian Certified Pedorthist, it inspired me to become certified and provided me the one-on-one training not common to very many professions. I now realize how in demand and highly specific this certification is, and quite enjoy all aspects of the profession, from dealing directly with patients (clinical) to manufacturing (technical)."

Patrick Bergevin, Canadian Cerfitied Pedorthist

Pedorthics can be a fulfilling and financially rewarding career, as it enables you to assist Canadians in achieving and maintaining proper lower limb and foot health. And, the profession is growing impressively each year, as evidenced by the more than 500 Pedorthists in Canada.

As a Pedorthist, who specializes in foot orthotics and footwear, you have the opportunity to become a valuable member of the healthcare team in Canada working closely with prescribing healthcare professionals to help educate patients on the importance of proper footcare and footwear and/or to assist in treating pain and discomfort caused by certain foot conditions as a result of systemic diseases such as diabetes and arthritis.

Pedorthists (C. Ped (C)) are one of the few healthcare professionals trained in the assessment of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics. With specialized education and training in the design, manufacture, fit and modification of foot orthotics and footwear, Pedorthists help to alleviate pain, abnormalities and debilitating conditions of the lower limbs and feet that if left untreated could result in limited mobility.

There are three levels of Certification for Pedorthists including:

  • Certified Pedorthic Master Craftsman - C. Ped MC
  • Certified Pedorthist - C. Ped (C)
  • Certified Pedorthic Technician -C. Ped Tech (C)

Certification is provided by The College of Pedorthics of Canada (CPC). The College also regulates Pedorthists by ensuring they adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and Standards (Link to Code of Ethics and Standards PDF). All Canadian Certified Pedorthists belong to the Pedorthic Association of Canada (PAC), which currently boasts more than 400 members nationwide.
